SAN DIEGO, Calif. - June 10, 2009 - Cubic Defense Applications, Inc., the defense systems business of Cubic Corporation (NYSE: CUB), reported more than $45 million in new bookings for its fifth-generation air combat training instrumentation, the P5 Combat Training System/Tactical Combat Training System. The new bookings -- for the U.S. Air Forces Europe and U.S. Navy - bring to $260 million the company's revenues to date for the P5 system. P5 is currently operational at 13 military bases across America and has flown more than 100,000 sorties, earning its wings as a proven and reliable training tool for combat aviators.
Cubic Defense Applications and its principal subcontractor, DRS Technologies, Inc. are providing P5 CTS/TCTS systems under a 10-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract awarded in June 2003 with a ceiling value of $525 million. P5 features easily transportable components, advanced security features, real-time weapons simulations and live monitoring functions. Key components include aircraft-mounted airborne instrumentation pods and ground stations with display systems that aircrews can use to conduct, monitor and control live air combat training, as well as post-flight debriefs.

Sundog Software,LLC, has announced Linux support and increased performance for its 3D clouds, sky, and precipitation software library for simulation and game developers. Version 1.8 of SilverLining(tm) now includes libraries for Linux in addition to Windows, and offers a 20% performance boost for OpenGL developers targeting NVidia-based systems.
"With this release, visual simulations can include more clouds in their scenes without impacting framerates," said Frank Kane, CEO of Sundog Software. "We've seen over 300 frames per second on consumer-grade hardware, with scenes of 3D cumulus clouds with physically realistic lighting stretching to the horizon." Version 1.8
of SilverLining obtains this performance boost through the new "bindless graphics" extensions to OpenGL.

May 2009 - New Zealand. Transas has developed a new engine room simulator of the Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV). An inovative new simulator has been installed at the Royal New Zealand Navy Engineering School as a part of their Marine Engineering Sythetic Training Environmet (MESTE) complex. The project was locally supported by the Electronic Navigation Ltd.
The simulator provides the RNZN with a a flexible solution to meet their training and assessment needs. A distinctive feature of MESTE is the overall simulation of the OPV's Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS). The simulator faithfully replicates the OPV IPMS screens, electrical plant controls, and the local operation of ships systems. Realistic system control consoles provide a high level of simulator fidelity.

Just one day after the launch of America's Army 3, the U.S. Army has opted to close its main Emeryville, CA-based studio in an effort to "consolidate development."
A representative for America's Army confirmed the news with Shacknews, noting that future development of the free-to-play PC military simulator will occur at the program office in Redstone Arsenal, AL. Exactly how many developers were affected is as yet unknown.
"This consolidation will allow us to gain efficiencies between our public and government applications," the representative explained. " We appreciate all the hard work that every member of the America's Army team has contributed to the project, and we look forward to delivering future America's Army game releases in the months ahead."

The aim of the 10th annual European GAMEON® Conference (GAMEON®'2009) on Simulation and AI in Computer Games, is to bring together researchers and games people in order to exchange ideas on programming and programming techniques, which will be beneficial to the gaming industry and academia. Secondly it aims to steer young people into this industry by providing how-to tutorials and giving them the opportunity to show their ideas and demos to the gaming industry. The conference will concentrate mostly on the programming of games, with special emphasis on simulation, AI and fuzzy sets, and physics related computer graphics. Next to that, all of this will be fused in the topic of computer game design in stand-alone and networked games. Software providers will be able to show their latest packages and give hand-on tutorials for the participants.
If you are interested in the other GAMEON® conferences check out this page.

Version 1.81 is available from SunDog's download page, at
http://www.sundog-soft.com/Downloads.htm. New features include:
. support for "Bindless Graphics" on OpenGL. If you have an NVidia card (G80 class or newer) with the latest drivers (185 or newer,) you can expect a substantial performance gain with this release.
. support for Linux and Mac OS X
. cloud layers that don't blow away with the wind or as the camera moves away from them. The new CUMULUS_CONGESTUS_INFINITE and CUMULUS_MEDIOCRIS_INFINITE cloud layer types feature clouds that wrap within a cloud layer that stays centered at the camera position, creating the effect of a cumulus cloud layer that never ends.
. faster initialization times

Altia HMI Plugs in to Off-the-Shelf Components for Testing and Reviews
New product development teams often need to create the illusion of a production-ready system before the product is even complete. Altia is proud to offer seamless integration to off-the-shelf, low-cost electronic hardware components that can be connected to a PC running an Altia simulation. These hardware components are available with different sensor options – like pressure, voltage/current, motion, and distance/range – that allow development teams to build physical prototypes of volume knobs, washing machine rotary controls, warning lights and more. By integrating an Altia Design model with these “plug and play” building blocks, users are able to create extremely high fidelity mock-ups for use in user studies and management reviews.
