Low-Priced PC-IGs Restrain Market Growth of Traditional High-End IGs
Personal computer (PC) commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) technologies have established a new paradigm in visual simulation systems, triggering sweeping changes in markets across the world. Within five years of introduction, PC-based image generators (IG) with 90 percent fidelity are available at one-half to one-tenth the cost of traditional high-end IGs. To counter this onslaught, several producers of traditional high-end IGs hurriedly integrated PC-COTS technology into their architecture in 2002. This has resulted in a drastic reduction in the average price per unit and enabled a broad spectrum of applications in the commercial and military markets.
This Frost & Sullivan research on visual simulation divides the market into image generators (high-end IGs and PC-IGs), visual simulation software (IG, database development, and custom services), and visual simulation display systems. The research provides worldwide coverage, in-depth analysis of each subsegment along with forecasts for the military and commercial (aerospace, energy, entertainment, manufacturing/engineering/research, medical, and transportation) end-user markets.
